What is HypnoBirthing and how does it help?

For more and more pregnant women Hypnobirthing is the answer for a comfortable pregnancy, birth, swift recovery and a healthy baby. HypnoBirthing has received much press coverage over the years as a amazing alternative to your typical hospital lamaze childbirth classes. So what exactly is Hypnobirthing and how does it help with childbirth?

HypnoBirthing® is a “full-service” childbirth education course, teaching everything needed to prepare mind and body to have a healthy birth. This childbirth education program for every couple whether you are planning on using medication at the time of birth or not. Hypnosis for childbirth is not a new concept, but rather reintroducing the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician who forwarded the concept in the 1920’s. The method teaches you that in the absence of fear and tension, severe discomfort does not have to be a natural accompaniment of the birthing process.

HypnoBirthing is a unique method of childbirth education that teaches couples how to work together using many techniques including, hypnosis, imagery, and relaxation for a more comfortable, relaxed, and peaceful birth. The skills you learn you will use before, during and after the birth of your baby and for the rest of your life. You deserve to know how birth was meant to be experienced.

In your HypnoBirthng childbirth education class you will learn:
✶How hypnosis works and why
✶How to stop negative programming
✶Relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to eliminate the fear and tension that causes long labor and pain, replacing it with confidence, calm and comfort
✶Other techniques to produce a shorter, more comfortable labor
✶How to release negative experiences from the past and present that could interfere with your calm, and comfortable birth
✶How to control your body’s own natural relaxant
✶How to create your own effective birth plan
✶How your partner participates throughout the birth
✶Natural techniques for induction of labor, if you go beyond your “Estimated due date”
✶Natural techniques to re-stimulate a “stalled labor”
✶The importance of prenatal and perinatal bonding and much more…

HypnoBirthing Advantages:
✶Eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome before, during and after birthing
✶Reduces the need for chemical anesthesia
✶Eliminates fatigue during labor, leaving the mother fresh, awake and with the energy needed to bring her baby into the world
✶Shortens the first stage of labor by several hours and often eliminates the need to push to bring the baby to the crowning stage
✶The birthing companion is an integral part of the birthing, not an onlooker
✶Postnatal recovery is rapid and easier
✶Babies are better adjusted and happier
✶Mothers do not run the risk of hyperventilating from shallow breathing
✶Promotes special bonding of mother, baby and birthing companion
✶Fewer interventions and complications during labor
✶Returns birthing to the beautiful, peaceful experience nature intended and more…

Nurses, midwives and doctors are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of using hypnosis. You will always have the ability to use anesthesia if you desire, but most doctors and nurses report that, when it is requested, much less is needed and for a shorter period of time than when hypnosis is not used. As a result, both mother and child are more healthy and alert for the experience. Not using chemical anesthesia or using much less anesthesia, also tends to aid in recovery for the new mother and infant. Without a doubt there is a huge difference between mothers who use HypnoBirthing and those who do not.

HypnoBirthing is a childbirth education program, which combines self-hypnosis with the knowledge of natural childbirth. HypnoBirthing, developed in 1989 may be relatively new, however the concept of using hypnosis for childbirth is not. The HypnoBirthing program is based on the work of Dr.Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician and author who, in the 1920s, was an early pioneer of the concept of natural birthing. He found that in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain did not exist in labor.

Hypnosis has been used in obstetrics for many years. Self-hypnosis has proven to provide analgesia, deep relaxation and anxiety relief as well as shorten the duration of labor. There are numerous scientific studies that show self-hypnosis to be simple, effective and safe for both mother and baby.

Since 2005 the HypnoBirthing Institute has been gathering there own convincing data. Between October 2005 and January 2008, 1059 HypnoBirthing parents’ birth reports were sent to the HypnoBirthing Institute. Of the 1059 birth reports, 806 were from the United States. The data showed 15.5% of US HypnoBirthing mothers birthed via cesarean, compared to the CDC rate for all births in 2005 was 30.2%. Study also showed HypnoBirthing mothers to have a dramatic reduction of interventions such as epidurals and pain medications as well as inductions.

Over the years childbirth hypnosis has become more main stream than ever before. The momentum continues to gathered as more mothers take back control over their births and their baby’s. Women are becoming proactive with their child births, realizing doctors may be more concerned about their own schedules and agenda than the welfare of mother and baby.

HypnoBirthing is just one of many childbirth hypnosis programs available today. HypnoBirthing teaches couples how to work together using many techniques including, hypnosis, imagery, and relaxation for a more comfortable, relaxed, and better birth experience. Marie Mongan, founder of the HypnoBirthing Institute, has now taken her certified HypnoBirthing practitioner training program world wide.
